In 1928, history was made. Thirty-three students from eighteen various states came together at Hotel Baltimore in Kansas City, Missouri for one purpose. They came together to form Future Farmers of America (FFA). While there, they elected their first president, Leslie Applegate from Freehold, New Jersey, and established the symbol that was similar to Virginia's emblem. In 1929 and 1930, national blue and corn gold was established as the official colors, and the official creed was established. By 1933, the official dress was decided. Official dress was to be consisted of a blue corduroy jacket. After the establishment of FFA, it sparked an interest that evolved into The New Farmers of America. This was an organization for African-American boys who wanted to be involved in FFA and Agriculture. They got the opportunity to do everything an FFA member got to do. In 1969, females finally got the chance to gain full membership in FFA. Today, there are over 630,000 members who belong to the 7,575 chapters in the 50 states and two U.S. territories. We have accomplished much, but we have so much more to do. When we unite as FFA members, we can accomplish anything!
